Series: The Sword of Cartimandua
A good rule of thumb is that series have a conventional name and are intentional creations , on the part of the author or publisher. For now, avoid forcing the issue with mere "lists" of works possessing an arbitrary shared characteristic, such as relating to a particular place. Avoid series that cross authors, unless the authors were or became aware of the series identification eg.
Also avoid publisher series, unless the publisher has a true monopoly over the "works" in question. Saying that, I would also point out that my kindle library has more Hosker books in it than any other author And I will continue reading his ongoing works, as he skillfully weaves fact into fiction, in what are usually fast paced and entertaining novels but again Read the Varangian series first, if you want some real action They hooked me on hosker.

The historical backdrop for his tales is accurate and detailed; but deeper he has done the footwork so that the mores and folk ways of his characters are historically accurate as well. At the end he includes an historical note that delineates the factual from the fictional, and provides a glossary that also delineates fact from fiction. Characters are well crafted and compelling. He is as good to read as Bernard Cornwell. I loved the story.
The characters were interesting, the storyline was solid, and there were two divergences from the formula that were most interesting. The author certainly did his homework. Can't say the same for the editor.
This was one of the worst editing jobs I've ever seen. Poor punctuation, clear syntax issues--it was a hot mess. I've edited for twenty years and have never seen such a poor job in a published work. A very entertaining read but could stand proof reading for minor grammatical errors. Good story line though.
I would recommend to others. Looks like it was printed by a script reader or similar device. At least I get to make up my own words. This book gave me a different insight into The roman auxiliary units which in the other books I've read these units were ignored. It is fast paced and a good story. Enjoyed it very much. One person found this helpful. Five stars would have been attained were it not for the nagging neglect of adequate editing and grammar checking.
